Road Safety Thinking Rewarded
July 19, 2012
Pupils in Year 5 at three Selby district schools have been rewarded for their creativity in promoting road safety.
They are all winners in the Junior Road Safety Officer Scheme 2011-2012 which is run by the North Yorkshire County Council Road Safety and Travel Awareness Team to help contribute to its targets on reducing casualties and supported by Drax Power Limited (”Drax”).
Publishing their own JRSO newsletter and taking part in a Health and Safety week secured first prize for Jake Rowbottom and Millie Lighten of Brayton Juniors, who both received £100 vouchers for Selby Bike Centre. The school itself received a donation of £250 to spend on supplies or equipment of its choice.
Second prize was awarded to Alesha Harwood and Aiden Smith of Carlton in Snaith Primary School, with Burton Salmon Primary School pupils Gia Davies and Jasmine Davies third. They received Selby Bike Centre vouchers for £50 and £25 respectively.
Presenting the JRSO awards, Nick Wright, Fire Safety Coordinator
at Drax said:
“We were very impressed with how all the children demonstrated
innovative ways to promote road safety but this year’s winners
really thought about activities and ideas that were relevant to
their school, and its location.
“Health and safety is a vital aspect of the culture at Drax Power Station and we are delighted to help promote this way of thinking among young people through supporting the JRSO Scheme.”
