Drax Young Player of the Year Award
16 year old David Knight was awarded the annual Drax Power Young Player of the Year Award and a £100 cash prize at the league’s annual dinner at York Racecourse on 20 September.
David plays for Askham Bryan YPO Cricket Club and is a fantastic all round player.
Good cricketers run in the Knight family. David’s father Willie Knight is amongst the best players that HPH York Vale Cricket League has ever produced and his son seems to be following closely in his footsteps. As a child David used to watch his Dad play and joined the club as soon as he could. He quickly made it into the first team and this summer proved to be one of the stars of the first division.
David’s talents have also been noticed elsewhere. He has been asked to play in the lucrative Bradford League. However these requests have been in vain, David is loyal to the Vale league and refuses to be prized away.
David fought off stiff competition to win this year’s award from equally gifted cricketers 14-year-old Andrew Simpson (York) and Layton Hallam (Hemingbrough), aged 16, who received £50 each.
