Stakesby Community Primary School (Whitby) has won the North area finals of the Drax Cup 2008, the country’s biggest under-9s cricket competition. It means they go through to the finals which will be staged at Headingley Carnegie Stadium on Thursday 26 June.

They beat St. Wilfrid’s Catholic Primary School (Ripon) in the festival-style tournament held at Whitby Cricket Club, Whitby today (20 June 2008).

A total of 270 schools from across Yorkshire are taking part in The Drax Cup 2008 which is sponsored by Drax Power Limited and organised by The Yorkshire County Cricket Club in conjunction with The Yorkshire Cricket Board and The Yorkshire Schools’ Cricket Association.
