Shift Leader

Peter Fox

Joined Drax in 1989

At Drax I’ve always found that the people are friendly, interested in the job and willing to give advice to help you and ultimately benefit the company.

Peter sits at the heart of the operations side of the business. As manager of one of the four shift teams at Drax, Peter has responsibility for ensuring that the six generating units and auxiliary plant perform at their best. To do this Peter has to take a number of factors into consideration, for example, safe operation of the plant is of vital importance as is compliance with environmental regulations which strictly determine, amongst other things, the allowable levels of emissions that can be released to the atmosphere.

When his shift starts, Peter must make an assessment of the state of plant operations and determine the priorities for the next 12 hours, which includes the deployment of resources. Continual monitoring of events throughout the shift may mean that priorities change and Peter may have to take quick decisions to ensure the smooth running of the plant.

The engineering and operational challenges that running a plant the size of Drax bring are aspects of the job that Peter relishes along with the knowledge that his decisions count.
