Apprenticeship scheme

The Drax Apprenticeship Scheme runs over a four year period and is currently hosted by Stafforce Apprentice Training Agency.

We recruit a number of apprentices within the following disciplines:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electrical Control and Instrumentation Engineering

At the end of the four year programme our apprentices can achieve the following nationally recognised qualifications:

  • BTEC - National Diploma in Engineering
  • NVQ 3 - Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering – Power Plant Maintenance

In addition our apprentices can expect to develop a number of key skills such as planning and organisation, communication, team working and problem solving.

Apprenticeship Four Year Overview

Year 1 – 90% of the time is spent at EON’s Engineering Academy at Ratcliffe Power Station near Nottingham, learning basic skills and studying towards your BTEC.

Year 2 – 50% of the year is spent completing the BTEC and training skills at EON’s Engineering Academy. The remainder of time is spent at Drax commencing with the NVQ qualification and gaining valuable experience across the Maintenance department.

Year 3 – The majority of an apprentice’s time is spent at Drax focusing on the NVQ qualification and gaining practical experience. A small amount of time will be spent at EON’s Engineering Academy.

Year 4 – During the final year the apprentices spend all their time at Drax completing the NVQ and preparing to start in a role as a fully trained craftsman.

Stafforce Apprentice Training Agency
Stafforce directly employ all apprentices (on behalf of Drax) during the first two years of the apprenticeship scheme. Stafforce manage the relationship with the EON’s Engineering Academy to ensure a timely and positive learning experience for the duration of the Apprenticeship framework. Stafforce will provide feedback to Drax on the Apprentices’ progress as provided by EON’s Engineering Academy.

Accommodation
Whilst the apprentices are training during the first two years, accommodation will be provided, which is arranged by EON Engineering Academy.

Transport
A mini bus will pick up all apprentices at 7.00am every Monday morning (unless the apprentices are scheduled to be at Drax) arriving at EON Engineering Academy at around 9.00am. The mini bus will collect all apprentices every Friday at 2.00pm from EON Engineering Academy arriving back at Drax Power Station at 4.00pm.
